Jacob Moses

Congratulations to MHS Sophomore, Jacob Moses! Jacob earned 1st place in Oklahoma and an outstanding 4th place nationally in the InvestWrite competition!

InvestWrite is a culminating activity for Stock Market Game students that extends their classroom learning with a written challenge to address real-world financial issues. Out of THOUSANDS of entries across the country, Jacob’s essay stood out for its thoughtful analysis of investing, risk, and long-term strategy.

We are also proud to recognize his teacher, Shea McCrary, whose support and guidance helped make this achievement possible.

Here's an excerpt from Jacob's essay:

"During the Stock Market Game, I made a lot of risky decisions that taught me how unpredictable and dangerous the market can be....the game helped me understand what responsible investing looks like, and how I can use a diversified portfolio to grow steadily over time. The Stock Market Game didn’t just teach me how to buy and sell stocks, but it taught me how to think like someone planning for a real financial future. I am thankful for the opportunity to have played the Stock Market Game. I feel like I have been given the unique opportunity to get a “head start” on what it looks like to invest in stocks, mutual funds, and bonds. I have been given knowledge, as a high school student, that the majority of adults do not understand. I truly understand that investing and holding stock, bonds, and mutual funds for the long term is the smart way to invest. My goal is to invest early and well so that I can retire at a young age."
